The Haute Route Pyrénéenne runs from Hendaye to Banyuls-sur-Mer over approximately 800 kilometres, staying as close to the ridge line as possible. Unlike the GR®10 and GR®11, it is not waymarked — the route is made up of paths, faint trails and off-trail sections, and varies from one hiker to the next. It constantly crosses between the French and Spanish sides, with frequent passages through Andorra. It is the most committing of the three great Pyrenean crossings: it is aimed at experienced mountain hikers who are confident with navigation and able to carry bivouac equipment. Accommodation exists but is more spread out, and resupply points are scarce on some sections. Works offline — essential on a route where phone signal is often absent.
