GR509 - Grande Traversée du Jura

Description

A long-distance crossing of the Jura mountains, over mid-mountain terrain, on a well-waymarked trail with no technical difficulty. The relief is gentle in the first part, then becomes more pronounced in the Haut-Jura, with a final sustained climb above the Rhône. The route regularly passes through villages, with gîtes d'étape and resupply points well spread along the way. The high plateaus stay snow-covered until spring, which shortens the walking season. The guide covers the entire route with accommodation, resupply points and regulated bivouac areas. Mobile coverage is unreliable in the combes and high forests; the guide works offline.
